The Need
For families under financial pressure, groceries often compete with rent, utilities, transportation, healthcare, and other necessities.
The challenge is not always that food resources do not exist.
Often, the challenge is connecting those resources reliably with families who need them.
That is where MCC comes in.
How the Program Works
Thursday — Ordering
MCC coordinates and places the weekly food order.
Friday — Receiving
Approximately 8–12 pallets of food are received and staged at MCC.
Sunday Morning — Preparation
Volunteers sort and organize food for distribution.
Sunday Afternoon — Distribution
Approximately 150–170 family visits receive grocery assistance during a typical Sunday distribution.
IDEA also provides approximately 200 prepared hot meals for distribution.
This takes place nearly every Sunday throughout the year.
Current Annual Activity
MCC currently operates Food Assistance approximately 50 weeks per year.
That represents approximately:
7,500–8,500 family distributions annually
400–600 pallets received annually
~10,000 prepared hot meals distributed annually
These are distributions/visits and should not be interpreted as 8,000 unique households.
A Partner-Supported, Volunteer-Powered Program
The program works because everyone contributes something.
Houston Food Bank helps provide food resources.
IDEA provides prepared hot meals.
Volunteers contribute thousands of hours of service.
MCC provides ordering, receiving, space, staging, volunteer coordination, beneficiary intake, compliance, reporting, communications, and distribution.
Donors help sustain and strengthen the system.
Why Donate If the Food Is Donated?
Because food does not distribute itself.
Getting food from a regional partner to a family's table requires people, systems, storage, transportation coordination, volunteer management, facility space, administration, compliance, and distribution infrastructure.
Your donation helps sustain that entire delivery system.
Strengthening the Program
MCC is working to strengthen Food Assistance through:
-
Sustainable program supervision
-
Operational and administrative capacity
-
Improved refrigerated storage
-
Better food-handling and volunteer working conditions
-
Continued facility and distribution support
Current Year-One Funding Goal: $45,000
This includes both recurring sustainability needs and one-time capacity improvements.
